Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month My Son Discovered His Mom Hates Spiders

Spiders, white noise machines, and baby words made January a fun month for us!

So spiders. I’m not a big fan. R learned that his mom is NOT a big fan. At all. He doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, he doesn’t even know how scary spiders can be. He proved this by grabbing a spider trap that we had stuffed in a corner of his room and FLAILING IT ABOUT like spiders were pom-poms stuck to a glue strip on a piece of cardboard. What did his mom do? Grab it for two seconds then just about had a heart attack when she saw the 10-15 spiders and their legs all strewn about.

So I let go and let him keep flailing it. Yeah, I guess I’m that kind of mom. Continue reading “Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month My Son Discovered His Mom Hates Spiders”

Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Plague

Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Plague

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great December! We sure did. Except for the plague part. Sorry, I’m always posting about us getting sick. The middle of our Christmas break had us holed away at my in-laws’ house because everyone was sick. ? My brother-in-law, father-in-law, and I somehow avoided it—probably due to our steel-cut immune systems. Both the babies got diarrhea and everyone else was vomiting on top of that. It was pretty sad, but we survived. Continue reading “Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Plague”

Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Mobility

Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Mobility

Hello everyone!

It’s a great time to get a cold, isn’t it? We all got sick this month, AGAIN! What is up with this year? Beats me. G is still pulling out of his, but I think the worst is over.

The good news (I think…?) is that R has discovered his mobility and is moving a LOT! Over the course of 10 days he started rolling all over the place, army crawling and rocking on his hands and knees. It’s been so fun to watch him discover the world around him. We’ve learned to hide or move all cords and electronics because he loves them the most. We can put his stuffed leopard thing, his noisy and colorful ball, and a computer cord in front of him and he will 100 percent of the time go for the cord. I don’t understand. Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Chicken Wings

Sampling the Sutherlands: the Month with the Chicken Wings

October was great for our family because it helped us get out of our comfort zone. There were several moments last month that caught us by surprise.

The first unexpected moment happened at the beginning of October. I have truly found a love of cooking since I got married, but one thing I’d never tried, nor ever really intended to try, was barbecue chicken wings. The first time I went to the store this month I accidentally picked up eight pounds of chicken wings instead of chicken breasts. The way I found out? I opened the bag.
